Children with Additional Support Needs
As part of the Professional Assessment Group (PAG), Westfield Court Nursery School supports eight children with complex Additional Support Needs. The educational programme for the children with Additional Support Needs is provided by the nursery team and supported by a multi-disciplinary team, consisting of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapist, Educational Psychologists and Paediatrician.
Our Speech and Language Therapists work in the school two days a week with the Additional Support Needs children, on an individual or small group basis. They also have the services of an Occupational Therapist once a week.
Time is protected to allow staff and other agencies to liaise and develop Individual Educational Programmes. This, along with a good ratio of qualified and experienced staff, has enabled Westfield Court to gain the reputation as a centre of excellence for supporting children with complex Additional Support Needs in an inclusive mainstream setting.
The school provides various therapies including Music Therapy, when facilities can be accessed and grant funding is available. This is provided by Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy in Scotland. Parents also sometimes have the opportunity to access Water Therapy through Moray House Department of Physical Education.
The eight Additional Support Needs places at Westfield Court Nursery School are currently accessed through the PAG system, from recommendations by Educational Psychologists.
